FEET FIRST EVENT. Stop by the Stairway ART & PHOTO CONTEST Exhibit in NORD ALLEY during the Pioneer Square Art Walk on Thursday, April 4th from 5pm to 8pm. Four winners will have their artwork on display through the end of May. Enjoy art, music and food and drinks.

Location: 314 First Avenue South, Seattle 98104 (in between Main/Jackson) in Nord Alley

A People’s Choice Award will be tallied during Art Walk on April 4. Four award winners will remain on display in NORD Alley through the end of May. THE UNEARTH COLLECTIVE is looking for volunteers who would like to help create a temporary installation in Pioneer Square, Seattle on May 2nd, 2013. The installation, O Horizon, will be a large-scale, immersive tactile artwork that will transform the paved ground of NORD ALLEY into a temporary forest floor!

Telescope Art – March Nord Alley Art

See the newest alley art installation, Telescope Art by Sarah Ruether and Nick MacDonald. Sarah and Nick used discarded plug plates from the Sloan Foundation’s 2.5 meter telescope’s focal plane for the newest alley art. These plates are drilled with thousands of holes to capture light from a galaxy, quasar or other target. Each hole conveys light to a spectograph through an optical fiber. Telescope Art on display in Nord Alley Feb-Mar 2013.

Visit Nord Alley for the art party on First Thursday Art Walk 2/7. Hosted by the Alley Network Project and the International Sustainability Institute. Come into the Nord Building for BIKE LOVE! Help Back Alley Bike Repair celebrate their 1 year anniversary with bike industry craftspeople displaying their locally produced goods. BABR will also be featuring exclusive art by the talented Kyler Martz. To spread the bike love, Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Zip Car are hosting live music and craft beer.

Meet our newest neighbor Shanda Foisy of Pixel Soup Creative. Shanda will show off her collection of Valentine’s Day prints outside her new studio in the Nord Building.

Alaskan Solitude – January Nord Alley Art

This January stroll through Nord Alley to see new featured art. As part of our Nord Alley rotating artists exhibit, painter Matt Yoder brings his work all the way from Alaska!

Matt mixes 18 years of carpentry experience and self taught art style with his love of the alaskan mountains to create Alaskan Solitude in Nord Alley. The Alaskan Solitude installation shows Matt’s life long love of skateboarding and snowboarding while also mixing his passion for art. The skateboards have been ridden by him across north america and the snowboards are reused refuse as a means to cut down on our environmental impact.

Dogs Light Up Nord Alley

On First Thursday December 6th, dozens of costumed canines flocked to Nord Alley in Pioneer Square. The evening saw these furry, four-legged friends gathering for the first annual Dogs on Parade holiday costume contest. As the dogs and their humans registered and showed off the costumes to judges, Sean Bendickson played holiday music in Occidental Park, Matt Yoder exhibited snowboard art hanging in Nord Alley, and Intrigue Chocolates gave out samples of delicious 5-spice hot cocoa to round out the festivities.

By 6pm former Seattle mayor, Charley Royer, and executive director of the Alliance for Pioneer Square, Leslie Smith, announced both the tree lighting countdown and the winning dogs of the evening:

These winners received prizes from Pioneer Pet, Mornin Noonan Night Studios, Grand Central Bakery, Fireworks, FX McRory’s, and Agate Designs . The Pioneer Square Dog(s) of the Year also received a golden Pioneer Square Dog of the Year 2012 dog tag to share.

The winners led the dog parade around the neighborhood as the Beaconettes finished the night off with Figgy Pudding award-winning caroling. Save the date for next year’s dog parade on December 5, 2013! Will your pup be crowned Pioneer Square Dog of the Year in 2013? Poetry Carnival in Nord Alley

September’s First Thursday in Nord Alley brought throngs of revelers to a poetry carnival! Perfect weather was the perfect punctuation for an evening of games, raffle prizes, poetry readings, photography, and installation. The night started off with a whirlwind of love poems, face painting, and poetry readings, and ended on a high note with Lesley Rialto’s bellydance.

Photography by Lauren Othon, an installation by Seth Geiser and Kirk Hovenkotter, and readings by Jeanine Walker, Cate McGehee, and Jack Bennetto rounded out the evening.

Thank you to the many talented hard workers who made the event happen:
